Trenton Daniel

Senior Reporter, Healthbeat

Trenton Daniel is a Senior Reporter for Healthbeat covering New York. Previously, he spent almost 14 years at The Associated Press, most recently as a reporter on the global investigations team using public records to break news and bolster the AP report. Trenton started at AP as its Haiti correspondent, in 2011, writing about reconstruction efforts following the 2010 earthquake and a subsequent cholera outbreak. Before AP, he spent almost eight years as a staff writer at The Miami Herald and reported extensively from Haiti, Iraq and throughout the Caribbean. Trenton also covered his share of hurricanes, homicides and zoning meetings. He lives in Brooklyn and, when not working, is probably training for a marathon by running an unhealthy number of laps inside Prospect Park.

All three hospitals released statements saying they have brought in nurses to cover those on strike and were prepared to care for patients.

Helen Arteaga Landaverde rose to CEO of Elmhurst hospital after founding a family health center. She's also a Covid survivor.

New York City's mayor-elect has said little about his plans for the health department. A team of advisers includes former commissioners, hospital executives, and experts from academia.

Trenton Daniel's reporting career has taken him from South Florida, to Haiti, to New York City. Here's what he's learned and how he'll cover public health for New Yorkers.
